Why connectHow it worksWhat it can doPluginsSetupSecurityFAQ

Your assistant brainstorms. NameStation makes it real.

Chat models are good at ideas and bad at knowing what is taken. Connecting NameStation gives them the parts they are missing.

  • Real availability, not guesses

    Chat models suggest domains that were registered years ago. NameStation checks every domain live and only calls it available when you can register it.

  • Names worth shortlisting

    The same generator and quality scoring as NameStation AI search, steered by your keywords, length, style, and words to avoid.

  • Trademark screening built in

    Screen a shortlist against USPTO and EUIPO marks before anyone falls in love with a name.

  • Shortlists your team can open

    Save picks to a NameStation list from any app and share one link with a cofounder, a client, or a Slack channel.

Example conversation

Find one-word .com names for a cozy coffee shop in Portland.

Sign in once, then ask for names in the chat.

ChatGPT

Add NameStation to ChatGPT as a plugin, then ask for names the way you would ask a person.

Adding a custom MCP server needs ChatGPT on the web with a Business, Enterprise, or Edu workspace, and an admin may need to allow it. On Pro, ChatGPT only runs read-only tools from custom servers, such as checking domains.

  1. 1In ChatGPT on the web, open Plugins, select the plus button, then Add custom MCP server.
  2. 2Name it NameStation, paste the MCP URL, and choose OAuth. Review the warning, then select Create as a plugin.
  3. 3Install the plugin, sign in to NameStation, and approve. Pick the organization to bill.
  4. 4In a new chat, ask for a name or an available domain. ChatGPT asks you to confirm before it runs a search that spends credits.

Claude

Claude connects to NameStation as a custom connector. The same sign-in works in Claude.ai, Claude for desktop, and Claude Code.

Add to ClaudeDownload plugin

Custom connectors are available on Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans. On Team and Enterprise, an owner may need to add the connector first.

  1. 1Choose Add to Claude. Claude opens the custom connector form with NameStation and the MCP URL filled in. You can also open Customize, then Connectors, choose Add custom connector, and paste the URL.
  2. 2Choose Add, then Connect. Sign in to NameStation and approve the requested access.
  3. 3Optional: download the NameStation plugin and upload it under Customize, then Plugins. It adds a naming skill that guides Claude through the brief, the shortlist, and the trademark check.
  4. 4Ask Claude for names. When Claude thinks up names itself, it checks their domains and trademarks with NameStation before suggesting them. Only generating names uses credits.

API and automations

Call NameStation from bots, scripts, and workflows.

REST API and MCP

Call NameStation over MCP or plain REST with a personal API key. The OpenAPI schema imports into any tool that reads one.

  1. 1Open Settings, then Connected apps, and create a key. Copy it then. It is not shown again.
  2. 2Send it as Authorization: Bearer ns_live_... to the MCP URL or to the REST API. Do not send your website session cookie.
  3. 3Tools that import OpenAPI, like Postman, n8n, or an agent framework, can read the schema URL below.
  4. 4Every REST response has ok, status, data, and error, with standard HTTP status codes.

OpenAPI schema

https://api.namestation.com/v1/openapi.json
REST example
curl -X POST https://api.namestation.com/v1/domains/find \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer ns_live_YOUR_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"description":"a cozy coffee shop in Portland","extensions":["com"],"count":10}'

Zapier, n8n, and Make

Generate names or check domains from a form, a spreadsheet row, or a CRM record.

  1. 1Create an API key in Connected apps. Give it a monthly credit cap.
  2. 2Add an HTTP request step that posts JSON to https://api.namestation.com/v1/domains/find with the header Authorization: Bearer ns_live_...
  3. 3Map data.names to the next step. Each row has domain, available, and register_url.
  4. 4Use /v1/domains/check to verify domains from a sheet or another tool: up to 100 a call on .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, and .us, and up to 50 on other extensions. It does not use credits.
Request body
{
  "description": "{{brief}}",
  "extensions": ["com", "io"],
  "count": 10
}

Menus change between app versions. If a step does not match, check your app's MCP or connector docs.

Security and control

A connected app acts on your NameStation account, so you stay in charge of what it can do and spend.

  • Use the official address

    Only connect to https://api.namestation.com/mcp, and install plugins from github.com/namestation/plugins or namestation.com. When a marketplace offers one-click install, check that the URL matches.

  • You approve every app

    Each connection shows the app, the access it asks for, and the organization it bills before you allow it.

  • Cap what an app can spend

    Set a monthly credit cap per app or API key. Calls stop at the cap instead of draining your balance.

  • Disconnect any time

    Revoking an app or a key in Connected apps stops it on the next call.

  • Keep API keys out of chats

    Keys are shown once. Use sign-in for chat apps and keep keys in your bot or automation settings, never in a prompt.

  • Watch for prompt injection

    Web pages and files can carry hidden instructions. NameStation tools only generate, check, and save names, but review what an agent does with its other tools.

Questions

Do I need a paid NameStation plan?
Yes. Generating names, checking domains, and screening trademarks need a paid plan or the free 3-day trial. New accounts can start the trial from the connect screen and come straight back to finish connecting.
How many credits does it use?
Finding available domains and generating names cost 10 credits per search, the same as an AI search on namestation.com. Finding available domains only charges when at least one domain is available. Checking domains, screening trademarks, and saving lists do not use credits. Domain checks have a daily allowance per connection.
Which account gets billed?
The organization you pick on the approval screen. You can set a monthly credit cap for each app and change it any time in Settings, Connected apps.
What can a connected app see?
Only what you approve: name generation, domain and trademark checks, your name lists, and your plan and balance. A connected app cannot change billing, invite people, or open your projects.
What is MCP?
The Model Context Protocol is an open standard that lets AI apps call tools on your behalf. NameStation runs a remote MCP server with OAuth sign-in, so there is nothing to install or host. Read how to get available domain names in ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok for a walkthrough.
What is the difference between the plugin and the connector?
The connector is the NameStation MCP server, added by URL. The plugin bundles the same server with a naming skill: instructions that tell the agent how to gather a brief, pick the right tool, skip names it already showed, and present results with links. Install the plugin where your app supports plugins, and add the connector everywhere else.
Can I use NameStation without signing in from the app?
Yes. Bots, scripts, and automations can use a personal API key over MCP or the REST API. Create one in Settings, Connected apps.
